Privacy Policy

The Little Gift (thelittlegift.com, "the Site") is a Christmas book and website from Little School of Music in Santa Clarita, California. We collect very little, and we never sell it.
Information we collect
When someone sends a card, we collect only the details needed to deliver it.

What we do not collect
- Last names, home addresses, phone numbers, or school names
- Email addresses from children
- Voice recordings, photos, or videos
- Free-typed messages (the only typed fields are a short first name and a short song title)
- Accounts or passwords
All music on the Site is pre-recorded by Little School of Music. Kids arrange our tracks; they don't record their own voices.
How we use information
We use the recipient's email address one time, to deliver the card.
We do not:
- Add recipients or senders to any mailing list
- Send marketing emails to recipients
- Sell, rent, or trade anyone's information
- Use the Site's information to build profiles or show targeted ads
Optional news for grown-ups. Parents or guardians can choose to get Christmas music news and offers from Little School of Music by checking a separate box. That box is unchecked by default and is for adults only. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in any email we send.
The Christmas card
When you send a card from Sounds of Winter, the email address you type goes straight to your own email app, which sends the card. It is used only to deliver that one card. Little School of Music never receives it, does not save it, and does not add it to any mailing list. Your song travels inside the card link itself, so nothing is uploaded to us.
Children's privacy
We follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We designed the Site so children under 13 can use it without sharing personal information about themselves.
- Grown-up permission to send. Before a card is sent, a parent, guardian, or user 13 or older must check a box giving permission to send it to the email address entered.
- Short, filtered typing only. Senders can type a first name, and can pick a song title from our list or type their own. Both are kept short and filtered to block personal details such as last names, numbers, email addresses, and web addresses.
- Grown-up review. A parent or guardian sees the finished card, including the name and title, before checking the permission box and sending it.
- Preset messages. Card messages come from a preset list, so children can't type longer personal details.
- One-time use. The recipient's email address is used only to deliver that card, and it never reaches us.
- No marketing to children. We never send marketing to children or ask children to sign up for anything.
Parents' rights. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about their child's card, to have it deleted, or to stop any further use. See "Contact us" below.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that run the Site and our grown-up sign-up forms: Netlify (the website host), Google Fonts (the Site's lettering) and HighLevel (our sign-up and recipe forms). They may use it only to provide those services to us. They may not use it for anything else. The buy buttons take you to the store you choose, and that store's own privacy policy applies there.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example to answer a valid court order.

Family recipes
Recipe submissions. We use the information in your submission only to create your recipe's page in the recipe book. We delete the original submission, including any contact details, within 30 days after your page is created.
Published recipes. Recipes you gave us permission to include stay in the recipe book for as long as we offer it. To have your recipe removed, contact us at info@littleschoolofmusic.com. We'll remove it from the online version and from future editions. Copies already downloaded or printed can't be recalled.
Cookies and saved songs
We don't use cookies. We use browser storage on your own device only to make the Site work. For example, it remembers your song, your game progress and your settings, so you can finish later on the same device.
We don't use advertising, third-party tracking or visitor statistics.
If you clear this Site's data in your browser, saved songs and progress are removed.
Your privacy rights
If you live in California or another state with privacy laws, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you
- Ask us to delete it
- Ask us to correct it
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information. We don't sell or share personal information for advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of.
We won't treat you differently for using these rights. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to confirm your request before we act on it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), to protect the information we hold. Because we keep so little, there is very little at risk.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change affects children's information, we'll get any required parental consent before applying it.
